Topshop Smokey Eye Palette

This is my first dabble into Topshop's makeup line and I have to say, I'm not disappointed. I absolutely love this little palette and it will continue to follow me around until it is empty!

The palette has four shades which work well on their own, but also blend beautifully together. The lightest shade is a beige with a slight pink tone to it. I love to wear this as a base for most looks, but it could easily be used on it's own with a simple black liner for that minimal approach. The next colour is a lovely taupe colour that I usually use in the crease to accompany the lightest shade. It's got a nice amount of shimmer through and can be built up a reasonable amount too. Thirdly is the chocolate brown that you see above. This shade also works really well in the crease and adds a great amount of depth when used in conjunction with the previous two colours. Finally, we have the darkest shade which is a black with a gold shimmer running through it. This works nicely along the lash line, but if you really want to go for a dramatic smokey eye you could also blend it through the crease with the rest of the colours. This last shade is what really takes this palette from everyday to evening.

I was really impressed with the pigmentation of this palette. It doesn't take much to build the colours up and the payoff is just beautiful. It comes with a decent mirror and the flat casing makes it ideal to travel with. Yep, I love it.

The Topshop Smokey Eye Palette in Aurora is available online at Topshop for $22.20 AUD.

Glycolic Toner

A little while back I spoke about how I was really struggling with break outs and just couldn't figure out what to do/change to help my skin. While I was shopping for a foundation one day (in order to hide the dastardly things!) the shop assistant recommend using an exfoliation toner to me. It was nothing new to me; I'd heard all about them and had even tried an acidic toner before. However, in my experience such a toner was super, duper strong and basically just made my already angry and sensitive skin cry out even further.

I went for a wander through the aisles, however, and came across this little bottle: the Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner. It sounds strong, it looks potent, but the label assured me it wasn't. In fact, they recommended using it morning and night.

I've used this toner each night since I purchased it and I haven't felt any irritation. It does recommend avoiding use if you have broken out acne, but on the whole I feel it has kept my skin relatively clear. I still go through my hormonal breakouts which are unavoidable, but this has definitely made a difference in the texture of my skin. I love that it doesn't feel any different to a normal toner when I apply it - no tightness of skin, no irritation - and I think this might have a place in my bathroom cupboard for some time to come!

Have you tried this toner from Mario Badescu? What exfoliating toner would you recommend to me?

Exciting News: YouTube Channel Is Coming!

I am very much aware that my blog posts have declined recently. So first of all, I have to apologise. I know that I have already declared to get right back into it with a vengeance this year, but it hasn't happened. I'm very naughty and easily distracted - what can I say? However, I have had a little excuse lately and am so excited to share some SUPER exciting news with you all!

The Beauty List is heading to YouTube! Yep, that's right! In combination with this little blog, I will also be uploading to my upcoming YouTube channel. Basically what I want to do is maintain the bulk of the product reviews on this blog whilst also expanding a little further into fashion with some regular OOTD and the like. I want to move all of my monthly favourites, etc. to my channel so that I can talk about them with a little more ease and make it a bit more personal. Also on my channel I will be including product comparisons, various tag-like videos as well as tutorials. At this point I will be aiming to upload once a week - on a Thursday.

I am so, so, sooo excited to be bringing this to you all! It's been something I've wanted to do for some time and now I've finally bit the bullet! I hope you will all be looking forward to it as I am - if you are don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends. It'd mean the world to me if you continue to support me as I venture into the world of YouTube as you have done for my little blog here.

Get ready for the upload tomorrow!!

January Favourites

What the? It's February already?! Where did the month of January go? Somehow I have passed through another month of my life and, on the way, accumulated another list of monthly favourites. This month Australia has undergone two separate waves of 40+ degree days and so I've actually found myself, more often than not, going makeup free. Having said that, there are a few little treasures which I have been enjoying using.

First up is this little matte eye primer from Face of Australia. This is actually the first eye primer I've used and I am reasonably impressed. To be honest, I don't have a huge problem with my eye makeup creasing. However, I definitely noticed a big difference in the lasting of my shadow. Of course, I don't know if that's just the affect of this little baby, or eye primers in general for me. Time (and future purchases) will tell. This product is quite sticky and appears, at first, as a pearlescent white. Once it's on the lid however (and a little goes a long way) it dries matte. I've really enjoyed using this recently.

I have been absolutely addicted to this little tin of goodness lately. I've never been a very big user of balms and the like because my lips have never been particularly dry. However, I am so glad that I tried this. My lips have been sooo soft this month and it's all down to the Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla and Macadamia. It tastes and smells amazing and leaves my lips as smooth as a baby's bum. Love it.

I'm pretty sure the Benefit Porefessional managed to find its way into my December favourites as well, but it really has shone this month too. As it's been so hot, my face has responded with excess shine. I've found that this gem of a product warrants a double feature in the favourites department simply because it has stood up to the test in January. My makeup has stayed in place for much longer than expected and it leaves my complexion looking flawless.

This is quite unusual for me as I'm not really a 'powder' girl. However, with the heat this past month I've been needing to combat some serious shine. I happened to have this sitting aside unused and thought I'd give it a try. I was instantly impressed with the effect. The Mineral Glow 'Loose Mineral Powder Foundation' in Soft Beige adds a little more coverage on top of my everyday liquid foundation (nothing I wouldn't say no to!) and instantly creates a matte effect. My skin still looks healthy and non-cakey without that awful shine. Win!

This little baby deserves its own post (expect one soon) however, I had to pop it into my favourites for January as it's basically all that I wore. I got my MAC quad palette and four shades for Christmas and have been in love with them ever since. I chose (clockwise from top left) Satin Taupe, Omega, Vanilla and All That Glitters as my starter kit of MAC eye shadows. Naturally, I've been loving Omega for my brows given that I'm a blonde. All That Glitters has gotten quite a work out and Satin Taupe has featured on a few special occasions. More recently I've been loving a really simple eye with Vanilla on the lid and creating a slightly defined crease with Omega. It's beautiful and light and perfect for the warmer weather.

The fact that the contents of this jar doesn't look white and solid like a normal coconut oil, but a runny liquid is testament to just how hot it has been in my house. At ten o'clock in the morning, the overall temperature was hot enough to turn this into liquid. Simply. Awful. That aside, last month I shifted this jar from my kitchen to my bathroom cupboard. Since then it has featured almost nightly in my skincare routine as my initial cleanser. I couldn't believe how well this stuff budges makeup - especially mascara! I just massage it all over my face and neck - anywhere that I've worn makeup that day - and rubbed it off with a face washer really well before going in with a more foamy cleanser to make sure I'm squeaky clean. I've even gotten my sister onto this and neither of us are looking back. I bought mine in the Woolworth's Asian Food aisle.

Last but not least, I've been officially converted to the Palmer's Natural Bronze Tanning Moisteriser. I've always been a fan of the Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion before now and still do like it. However, after a work mate recommended this bottle I have had to rethink my preferences. This is quite a thin consistency, but definitely feels moisturising. It doesn't smell too funky, but if you're not a fan of the Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula then you might be less inclined to like it. What I'm most impressed about though, is the actual colour payoff that you get. I'm pretty fair so any kind of tan shows up well on me. But this stuff is amazing. To me, it sits between a moisturising tanner and a cream fake tan. One or two coats of this and you're pretty much set. It doesn't become patchy; I don't even need to exfoliate beforehand. Basically you just get a nice, warm glow that builds up really well and fades nicely. Perfect.

What have been your favourite products in January? Let me know in the comments below!
